Your Family love the Rhossili Bay in Gower Swansea, it is the perfect FREE Family Day Out
Rhossili Bay is described as one of Wales' best beaches, as well as one of the best beaches in the UK and it has even been ranked in the top ten beaches in the world. This stunning Bay is looked after by the National Trust and is situated at the south-western tip of the Gower Peninsula.
Rhossili Bay is a beautiful sandy beach that stretches over three miles. This is a favourite spot for surfers as this is one of the most exposed beaches in Wales picking up any Atlantic swell.
This beach is also famous for its shipwrecks which you can see when the tide goes out. Back in 1887 the Helvetia was shipwrecked here and you can explore them. Also during low tide if you are adventurous you can reach the tidal island of Worms Head via a rock causeway, just make sure you keep safe as it is easy to get caught out by the tide coming in and become stranded!
Wildlife here includes the cheeky grey seals and beautiful birds. Dogs are banned from the beach from May to September.
Access to the beach is via a steep path with loads of steps on a large flight of stairs. There are no facilities here such as lifeguard service, no toilets and no refreshments. The nearest facilities like this is in Rhossili itself.
