Applications Now Open for Free Childcare in Neath Port Talbot

Applications Now Open for Free Childcare in Neath Port Talbot

Applications are now open for a free childcare and early education scheme being piloted in 14 wards across Neath Port Talbot.

Known as The Childcare Offer for Wales, the scheme provides eligible working parents working 16 hours or more a week, with 30 hours a week of funded early education and childcare for 3 to 4 year olds, for up to 48 weeks of the year. The scheme is funded by Welsh Government as part of its ‘Taking Wales Forward’ programme, with one of its main pledges being the removal of barriers stopping parents from taking up employment.

The scheme is being initially piloted in the wards of: Aberavon, Baglan, Blaengwrach, Bryncoch (North and South), Cymmer, Glyncorrwg, Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen, Gwynfi, Lower Brynamman, Onllwyn, Pontardawe, Resolven and Taibach. Wards not in the pilot will be included in a planned further rollout of the scheme later in the year, pending agreement from Welsh Government.

Councillor Peter Rees, cabinet member for education, skills and culture, said: “I am delighted we are able to give families across Neath Port Talbot the opportunity to access The Childcare Offer for Wales scheme. The Offer will make a real difference to parents, reducing the pressure on family income and helping ensure childcare is not a barrier to them taking up employment.”

Are You Eligible?

To be eligible for this Offer you have to be parents living within one of the selected pilot areas, have a child who is 3 or 4 years old, and earn on average a weekly minimum equivalent of 16 hours at national minimum wage (NMW) or national living wage (NLW) or more, you can find these current rates Here

If you are in a lone parent family you need to be working, and if you are in a two parent family you both need to be working. If you are self-employed or on a zero hours contract you need to be able to prove this by providing the relevant documents.

How to Apply

All applications for the scheme are processed by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Childcare Offer Team. Applications are now open for parents online – Click Here to Apply
