Easy to Follow Candy Apples Recipe

One of the things we love to get in the kitchen and make with the Kids at Halloween has to be Candy Apples and they really are not that hard to make, so we thought we would share our Easy to Follow Candy Apples Recipe with you

Of course, Candy Apples can be made all year round but we love to save them as a treat at Halloween Time. You don’t need much to make them and they are super easy to make.

However, just be mindful hot sugar is very dangerous so this is for sure a recipe that a grown up should take the lead on to keep the little helpers safe!

We Made two different Types of Candy Apples and this is how we made them

 

Ingredients for Candy Apples

For the Chocolate ones

  • 6 Apples
  • 400g Milk Chocolate
  • Hundreds and Thousands
  • 6 Wooden Lolly Sticks (we got our from Amazon Here

 

For the Red Candy Apples

  • 6 Apples
  • 400g Caster Sugar
  • 100ml Water
  • 1tsp Lemon Juice
  • 4 Tbsp Golden Syrup
  • 6 Wooden Lolly Sticks
  • Red or Black Food Colouring (This is the one we always use from Amazon, or you can get it also from Lakeland) 

 

What Else you Will Need to Make these Candy Apples

  • Weighing Scales
  • Medium Size Saucepan
  • Bowl to hold the Hundreds and thousands
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Measuring Jug
  • Sugar Thermometer (optional)

 

Method To Make Candy Apples

For Chocolate Apples

  1. Wash the Apples, pull off any twigs
  2. Push the Wooden Lolly Sticks into the middle of the Apple at the top making sure it has a solid fixing
  3. Pour the Hundreds and thousands into a Bowl Ready and get a plate or clean surface ready that you are going to put them on to dry

  4. Melt the chocolate and when completely smooth dip the apples in and cover completely. (If you have younger kids they may take longer and the chocolate go a bit hard that’s ok they will taste just as good)
  5. Then quick dunk the chocolate covered apples tops into the Hundreds and Thousands and place to the side to dry.

For the Red Candy Apples

  1. Wash the Apples, pull off any twigs
  2. Push the Wooden Lolly Sticks into the middle of the Apple at the top making sure it has a solid fixing
  3. Put the Caster Sugar, water and lemon juice into the saucepan and heat until all the sugar granules have dissolved.
  4. Add the golden syrup to the mixture and let it bubble away slowly.

  5. If you have a sugar thermometer you want to get it to around 150°C this is the point where it cracks. If you don’t have a sugar thermometer you can also tell its at the right stage by dropping a little bit of cold water into it and if it goes hard straight away then it ready.
  6. Add either the red or black food colouring which ever one you have decided to use, quickly stir in
  7. Dunk the apples into the syrup using a spoon to pour the red candy over the apple. Once the whole apple is covered place on a plate or clean hard surface to dry hard
