Families in West Wales and around the World are tonight being asked to Switch off Their World for the World! Here we explain all about Earth Hour and exactly how your Family can Take Part
Earth Hour is the world’s biggest switch off event and is a way for people everywhere to show support for putting the world on the path to recovery.
Every year, millions of people around the world switch off their lights at organise events, at home, in their community or in their towns or cities – to show they care about the future of our planet.
Last year over 10 million people across the UK took part and sent a clear message that we’re fighting for our world.
The world’s biggest landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, Carnaby Street, Buckingham Palace, and Edinburgh Castle all switch off lights as a symbolic show of support and you can switch off too.
Our planet is in crisis and we are the first generation to know we are destroying the world, and we could be the last that can do anything about it.
Daily we’re destroying forests, choking the oceans with plastic, destroying wildlife population sizes and causing devastating changes to our climate.
One of the biggest problems is we think we have time, but reality is nature needs life support right now.
Some Sad Facts about our World:
Nature is our life-support system, it’s the air we breathe, the water we drink and food we eat, so we honestly can’t live without.
The biggest factor in wildlife extinction is food, for example just in the UK the food we eat here is linked to the extinction of an estimated 33 species at home and abroad
Its overwhelming when you think of the threats to the world and its hard to think how just one person can make a difference, but during Earth Hour your one person joining millions, coming together to create a strong voice that can change things for the better.
Facts show that those combined voices has already helped to:
