Recipe to Make the Perfect Pizza Base and Topping for National Pizza Day

Here is a recipe to make the perfect pizza base and topping to enjoy with your family for National Pizza Day

This is a super easy yummy recipe that is great to make with the kids and doesn’t take that long either. This is recipe serves 4, but just make more than one if you need to feed more tummies!

 

Ingredients you will need for the Pizza Base  

  • 300g strong bread flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 200ml warm water

 

Ingredients you will need for the Tomato Sauce  

  • 100ml passata
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • handful fresh basil

 

Ingredients you will need for the Pizza Topping

  • 125g ball mozzarella, sliced
  • handful grated five counties cheese
  • handful cherry tomatoes cut in half
  • handful of pineapple chunks
  • handful of rocket or basil

 

Method

  1. First off make the base. To do this place the strong bread flour into a large mixing bowl and stir in the yeast and salt. Then, pour in 200ml warm water and the olive oil and mix together with a wooden spoon until it’s a soft wet dough. Then take the dough out of the bowl and place onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for 5 minutes until smooth. Place it back into the bowl and cover with a tea towel and leave the dough to rise. How long you leave it to rise is up to you, for thin crust you don’t really need to leave it rise, but for deep crust you could leave it to rise for around an hour and a half.
  2. To make the tomato sauce, simply mix the passata, crushed garlic clove and chopped basil.
  3. Once you have left your dough rise, you need to give it a quick knead and half into two so you can make two pizza’s. Using a rolling pin, roll out on a floured surface about 25cm across, its best to make it quite thin as it will rise when cooking in the oven. Place on two floured baking trays.
  4. Pre heat the oven to 240C/fan 220C /gas 8.
  5. Spread the tomato sauce over bases with a spoon. Lay the mozzarella cheese slices down, add the cherry tomato halves and pineapple chunks, then scatter the grated five countries cheese over the top.
  6. Place in the oven and bake for 8-10 mins until crisp. Take out of the oven and serve with some rocket or basil on the top

The advantage of this recipe is that you can add any type of toppings, so if you want to add some spicy chorizos or pepperoni you can.
