Picton Castle was built in the 13th Century and is set in 40 acres of magnificent woodland with walled gardens and is a great day out for the family in Pembrokeshire.
Picton Castle is a fully developed medieval castle that was transformed into a stately home in the 18th century.
With its gatehouse entrance and towers it’s design is based upon patterns of Irish castles of the same period and is the only one of this type in the mainland UK.
Picton Castle was constructed in 1280 at the behest of Sir John de Wogan who was Justiciary of Ireland circa and later inherited into the Philipps Family, who were the most powerful family in Pembrokeshire throughout the 17th and 18th Century and prominent philanthropists. It was the last members of this family who gifted the castle, its collections and gardens to The Picton Castle Trust in 1987 to ensure the preservation of Picton Castle as part of our heritage and for the benefit of the people of Wales.
Visitors to Picton Castle can enjoy the walled garden, the Lumsden Collection of Antique and Vintage Lawnmowers, restaurant, art galleries and the Secret Owl Garden. The Castle is also a wedding venue, holiday accommodation and hosts many family friendly events throughout the year. Access to the actual Castle is by Guided Tour only, which run daily at 11 am, 12 noon, 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm
