Great Places to See Dinosaurs around West Wales in 2018

Do you have a budding palaeontologist in your family? Well here are some of the best and closest places to see those Dinosaurs

So, get ready for a Jurassic day out that any dinosaur fan will love, tracking down that T-Rex, Stegosaurus and Diplodocus that remains alive in the imaginations of your little one

Places To Visit this Year in West Wales

Dinosaur Park, Tenby

Your little one will love stomping through this miniature land dedicated to dinosaurs. You can track down the many dinosaurs hidden in the woods and explore everything along the trial. There are also fab info boards in the Computersaurus Alley, as well as a fun Locator Screen to see where different species of dinosaur used to live. This is the perfect place to get up close to a life size dinosaur skull as well as watching a baby dinosaur hatching from its egg.  New for 2018 is the Epic Adventure Net.

Dinosaur Park, Dan-yr-ogof

Home to over 220 life-sized dinosaurs to hunt down in the undergrowth! This dinosaur park is one of the world’s largest award-winning dinosaur parks and is in set in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Be terrified as you come face to face with a Tyrannosaurus Rex that could swallow 230kg of meat in a single bite, or be amazed by the size of the massive Brachiosaurus that weighs more than 15 elephants do! There are so many dinosaurs here it could be hard to work out which is your favourite is!

Clerkenhill Adventure Park, Haverfordwest

Explore the Adventure Trails that lead from the adventure park such as the Boggy Walk, chicken run and Potty Walk where you will discover all the dinosaurs along the way.

Other Places to Visit in South Wales

The National Museum, Cardiff

In the Evolution of Wales gallery section of the museum you will be able to see fossils and come face to face with dinosaurs and woolly mammoths. There are skeletons of ancient creatures and impressive dinosaur skeletons and footprints.

You will also be able to see the real life skeleton of the Welsh dinosaur which was found in 2014 on a beach near Penarth. Thought to be a cousin of the Tyrannosaurus rex, it’s a completely new species and the first meat-eating dinosaur ever found in the country. The dinosaur is approximately 200 million years old, the oldest Jurassic dinosaur ever found in the UK. – And best of all its free admission into the museum!

The Bendricks, Barry Vale of Glamorgan

This is the perfect Little expedition for your budding palaeontologists, the chance to explore along this Jurassic coastline between Barry and Sully. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of all the dinosaur tracks exposed here. This is known as one of the best site in Britain for dinosaur tracks of the Triassic Period and also why it’s important to just look and not collect or damage the footprints when you visit. Really you need to go after high tide when the footprints may retain small puddles of water making it easier to spot them, another trick might be to go when the sun is low in the sky because of the shadows, but go hunting carefully as some of the rocks can be slippery when wet or covered in seaweed or even loose. Happy Hunting!
