New Baby and Toddler Group in Historic Landmark
The youngest residents of Swansea are being invited to spend quality playtime at one of the community’s most iconic buildings as they attend a New Baby and Toddler Group.
You can now join a playgroup at Morriston Tabernacle and help start breathing new life into the historic location.
Places are now available at the Cylch Ti a Fi, a Welsh-medium baby and toddler group that is held at the 147-year-old building every Wednesday from 9.30am until 11am during term time.
The Swansea Council officer leading a revitalisation plan for the Tabernacle is urging young mums, dads, grandparents and carers to seize the opportunity of enjoying a playgroup in such special surroundings.
Jacqualyn Box, based at Tabernacle, said: “It’s wonderful that this group and others are now making use of this amazing building.
“It’s delightful to see the newest generation of Swansea people being given the chance to benefit from the great spaces the Tabernacle has to offer.”
The Revitalisation Plan
The plan to revitalise the Tabernacle is being driven by Swansea council. The project represents an important development in the history of a building of national significance, one of only two Grade 1 listed structures in Swansea.
The revitalisation plan at Morriston Tabernacle is to strengthen its existence for Future Generations and is being funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund under its Resilient Heritage Programme. The National Lottery Heritage Fund grant was made possible by National Lottery players, with a staggering £71,300 being awarded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Mudiad Meithrin
This weekly baby and toddler group is being run by Mudiad Meithrin, which used to be known as Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin is a voluntary movement which specialises in providing Welsh-medium early years education, including nursery groups. It aims to give every young child in Wales the opportunity to benefit from early years services and experiences through the medium of Welsh.
The organisation’s Carole Williams said: “The Cylch Ti a Fi is a great opportunity for parents, grandparents or guardians to meet regularly, enjoy playing with their children and socialise over a cuppa.
“People who come here make new friends, listen to simple Welsh language songs, listen to Welsh stories and have a good time.
“Our aim in Mudiad Meithrin is to give every young child in Wales the chance to benefit from early years care and education experiences through the medium of Welsh.”
Other Activities at Tabernacle
There are other people in the community making great use of this famous chapel is Morriston, one includes musician Mathew Morgan who is hosting regular guitar lessons there.
Mathew Morgan, aged 34, said: “The Tabernacle is an amazing venue in the heart of our community – I’m glad that there are plans to revitalise it.
“I will be offering classical guitar lessons from March and would like to expand by offering instruction in a variety of other instruments in the near future. With the Tabernacle’s incredible musical heritage it’ll be a pleasure to light up the venue with music made by me and my students.”
Mathew lives in Chemical Road, Morriston, and has worked full-time as a music tutor with schools and private clients for around 15 years.
Classical guitar lessons is held at Morriston Tabernacle on Mondays from 7pm until 8pm and Thursdays 10am until 11am and cost £7.50 a session to book you can call Mathew Morgan on 07713 387435
Other new activities that are held here since the revitalisation includes a film show and weekly seated yoga classes with plans to launch even more activities here later this year. Cylch Ti a Fi
Is a great opportunity for parents or guardians to meet regularly to enjoy playing with their children and to socialise over a cuppa and practice your Welsh. Its great for your little one to socialise and make new friends, learn simple Welsh songs, Listen to Welsh Stories, enjoy playing with a variety of toys but most of all have a good time.
Being held every Wednesday in Tabernacle Vestry from 9.30am until 11am during term time each session costs £2 per family, there’s no need to book simply pop in as everyone is Welcome.
