Parents of Pupils in Wales Can Have Their Say on Exams

Parents of pupils in Year 10 and 11 in Wales can complete a survey and have their say on the arrangements to award exam grades, and considerations for summer 2021

The Independent review panel is seeking the views of a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that lessons are learned from this years’ experience for next summer exams.

Since March 2020 there has been great uncertainty and change when it comes to how our children have been learning and graded for their exams.

The arrangements for awarding grades in Wales in 2020 for GCSEs, A levels, Skills Challenge Certificate and Welsh-specific vocational qualifications were one such area.

It is clear from the changes that had to be made and the widespread comment and concerns raised, that it is an area in which many have a deep and heartfelt interest.

Therefore, the Independent Review Panel is placing high priority on listening to the views of a wide range of stakeholders throughout September and October.  They are meeting with representatives from across the spectrum of interest to listen, to question and to consider carefully what lessons can be learned from this years’ experience.

The Panel are aware that if learners, schools, colleges and all those supporting them are to be able to proceed with certainty this year, then the need to reach decisions on the arrangements for 2021 is urgent.

They know that this means they won’t be able to meet as many individual stakeholders as they would like, so to help with this they have put together a survey to help parents of pupils to submit their thoughts which will in turn help the panel gain a greater understanding of the strength and breadth of views beyond what is possible from their meetings alone.

If you would like to take part in this survey you have until the Closing Date for midnight on the 18th October 2020

The Independent Review Panel will be then making their recommendations to the Minister for Education by the end of October and its hoped those will be centred on the needs of learners and their progression, and on the continued need to maintain standards and the integrity of the education system and qualifications in Wales.

The final report is expected to be due by December 2020 and they have ensured that the learning and suggestions that is shared in this survey will be given due consideration by those tasked with developing the detailed arrangements for 2021.

To Take Part in this Survey you need to complete an Online Survey Here Before Midnight on the 18th October 2020
