This is a fantastic family activity that combines fun and a bit of cultural history. The Dylan’s Bow Tie Trail at the Dylan Thomas Centre in Swansea. This delightful trail is part of the ‘Love the Words’ exhibition, which beautifully chronicles the life, work, and legacy of the renowned Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas. From his birth in Swansea on 27 October 1914 to his untimely death in New York on 9 November 1953, the exhibition captures the essence of Dylan’s journey and his profound impact on literature.

The trail itself is a charming and interactive experience. Dylan Thomas was known for sporting a bow tie during public appearances, and in honour of this quirky habit, the Dylan Thomas Centre has hidden eight colourful bow ties throughout the exhibition. Families can enjoy a fun and engaging hunt, testing their skills to find all the hidden bow ties. It’s a fantastic way to explore the exhibition and learn more about Dylan Thomas in a playful and memorable way.

The Dylan Thomas Centre is open from 10am to 4.30 pm, Wednesday to Sunday, giving you plenty of opportunities to visit. Plus, the best part is that entry is absolutely free! Whether you’re a local or visiting Swansea, this is an ideal activity for all ages. It’s not just about the hunt; it’s about immersing yourself in the rich literary history of one of Wales’ most famous sons.

Planning your visit around International Dylan Thomas Day on the 14th of May could add an extra layer of excitement. This annual event commemorates the first stage performance of Under Milk Wood in New York and is a perfect occasion to delve deeper into Dylan’s world.
