Due to the current situation of Coronavirus many events across West Wales have been cancelled. Where we can we are updating our listing to reflect this, but information is not always being given to us in a timely fashion, so we must remind everyone to check before travelling to any event.

Llanelli Christmas Carnival and Lights Switch On

Llanelli Christmas Carnival and official Christmas Light Switch-on is Carmarthenshire's largest community event and great fun for all the family.

15,000 people celebrate the start of the Christmas period with a huge carnival parade from Festival Fields out by the Coleg Sir Gar right into the town centre, entertainment, stalls, refreshments, aerial fireworks display, large funfair and switching on of the Christmas lights.


2021 Llanelli Carnival Update

Unless anything Major changes it is Planned for the Llanelli Carnival to go ahead in 2021, different this year is Carmarthenshire County Council is running it rather than Llanelli Rural Council, so alot of information about this years event is still unconfirmed, as soon as we have more information we will update this page. Also Carmarthenshire County Council still not confirmed if COVID Pass will be required for this event, more info to follow.

What has been confirmed so far is the carnival procession will leave Festival Fields, Pwll, at 6.15pm on Friday 19th November, taking its usual route and will arrive in town shortly after the Christmas lights switch-on at 6.45pm. There will be a fun fair in Spring Gardens with a fireworks display marking the finale at 7.40pm



At 4pm there will be live entertainment and music begins

During the day you can expect: -

  • 10am Take part in the Christmas treasure hunt at Llanelli Library
  • 12pm Cowell Street will closed for fun fair rides
  • 4pm Big, small and scary Fun fair rides open with lots of side stalls plus selection of hot and cold refreshments and Street entertainment (various locations)
  • 5pm Live entertainment and music begins at main stage by Llanelli town Hall
  • 5.45pm Road closures in place for Church Street and side streets
  • 6.15pm Carnival Parade leaves Festival Fields, Sandy Road - This is confirmed for 2021
  • 6.40pm Presentation to Christmas lights design winners (Main Stage) 
  • 6.45pm The BIG Christmas lights switch-on by the, the Chair of Llanelli Rural Council, Mayor of Llanelli Town Council and the Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council - This time is confirmed for 2021
  • 7pm Arrival of carnival parade in Town Hall area Kindly organised by Llanelli Round Table
  • 7.40pm Spectacular Firework Display commences (Town Hall Gardens) - This is confirmed for 2021
  • 8pm Outdoor market closes for the evening
  • 8.15pm Carnival parade prize presentation (Main Stage)
  • 9pm Fun fair closes

Road Closures

Confirmed Road closures for 2021 so far are the road closure of Station Road and Church Street, Llanelli, from its junction with Murray Street to its junction with Gelli Onn, will start at 5.45pm until 8pm. Gelli Onn will be closed to westbound traffic only, from its junction with Thomas Street.

A rolling road block will be in place along the carnival route from 6.15pm, affecting the route into the town centre from Pwll, through the town centre, along Queen Victoria Road, Erw Road and Waunlanyrafon. Traffic may be affected until around 8pm.
