Seedy Saturday Carmarthen Green Fayre

Seedy Saturday Carmarthen Green Fayre

Start Date: 02-03-2019
End Date: 02-03-2019

Seedy Saturday Carmarthen is an opportunity for local growers and gardeners to get together each year to swap their saved seeds and knowledge before the season gets underway.

The idea is simple, just bring some of your own seeds from your garden or allotment and take home something different. Whether it’s vegetable, herb or flower, the seed swap table is the place to gather and exchange.

Seedy Saturdays and Sundays have been taking place all over the world since the early 1990’s. Their aim is to help preserve local seed varieties and to encourage people to save their own and become less reliant on the giant seed companies. Food we grow ourselves tastes better, costs less, has virtually zero food miles and keeps us fit and healthy.

Local seed varieties are often more suited to local climate and growing conditions and can improve and adapt year on year. Saving your own seed saves money and grown organically will help protect our biodiversity. Commercial seed companies increasingly offer hybridised and patented varieties which have lost any regional adaptations and more often than not, their taste.

Seedy Saturday Carmarthen started in Llanelli in 2003 but moved to its present venue in St. Peter’s Hall, Carmarthen in 2009 in order to reach a wider audience. Our philosophy has always been to fill the hall with relevant local stalls which promote sustainability, organic gardening and farming, eco-friendly issues, recycling, Fair Trade and ethical products.

Long running partners Tools for Self Reliance Cymru also sell their fantastic and popular range of reconditioned garden, green woodworking, smallholding and vintage tools to help you get out and grow, make and mend.

Once again we are happy to be able to provide a delicious range of food and drink made and served by Carmarthen's Caffi Iechyd Da.
