Freshwater West Beach

Freshwater West Beach is a large sandy beach in Pembrokeshire that any family will love for a Family Day Out.

Freshwater West Beach is a long sandy beach which is backed by the dune system of Broomhill Burrows. This is a fascinating beach as history says that this beach was once used by smugglers as a place to stash their booty. It is also famous as it has featured in several films such as ‘Robin Hood’ (the Ridley Scott version) and ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’. It was also used as a location for ‘Their Finest’ where it was meant to portray Dunkirk.

Being on the west coast this Beach picks up all the Atlantic swells making it a local hotspot for surfing. Because of this, swimmers really do need to be careful here as the rip currents are strong and the waves can be fierce. Due to its popularity with surfers it can get crowded here when the waves are good and parking can be limited.

There is no lifeguard service and dogs are allowed on the beach all year round.
