Parenting New Year Resolutions Worth Keeping

Go on then, who has made New Year Resolutions and already Broke them? Every year many of us parents make new year resolutions, some of which tend to be unrealistic to achieve or stick to and are therefore all a bit pointless….

Well with this in mind, we thought we would help you make some New Year Resolutions that are not only realistic but ones that are truly worth Keeping!

Here are our top ten parenting resolutions that will be easy to keep and will definitely add to your happiness levels this year.

Declutter

Spend January having a good declutter in your home, it will lower your stress levels as well as your family’s and objects you can fall over whilst attempting to do the school run

Increase Your Positives

It’s time to pay attention to what you’re saying to your kids and for every time, you give your child a negative comment, give them three more positive ones. In no time it will make you stop and think about their positives and praising them more and soon you will be cutting down on all your negative comments and your kids will thrive with this new system

Keep a Journal

We all love the moments that Facebook throws up as a memory from previous years on our timeline, so how awesome would it be to go one step further and keep a journal of your family life, get the kids involved too they will love it and it will also remind just what an amazing job you have done. You can take a traditional route using a pretty book and pen, or go digital using your computer or tablet, there are some fab free online private journal sites which will keep your images as well, just google free online journal sites to fine one to pick

Not When Your Angry

By far the best way and most beneficial to your child, when it comes to disciplining them, is don’t do it when your angry. This year learn to become more Patient, take a breath get calmer and then talk it out. Let’s remember it’s more important that your little one understands WHY they are being disciplined rather than having something taken away from them or sitting on a naughty step for few minutes.

Read More with Your Child

Reading is such a massive life skill, just a ten-minute reading session with your little one can really make such a difference but just as important is storytelling as it can build on your child’s imagination and creativity levels. Bonus is both of which gives you some awesome one on one time which your child will love

Listen More

It’s the simple things that make such a difference! When your child is talking to you, genuinely stop what you’re doing, look them in their eyes and give them all your attention. Listening to your kids is so under estimated in our busy lives, and such an easy way to make them feel valued. Don’t forget to listen to everything your little one wants to tell you, as if you don’t listen to the small stuff now, they won’t want to tell you the big stuff later!

Love Freebies

Why pay for things that are free? This year why not take advantage of all the free gems that local life has to offer for your family. We are so lucky to have loads of activities, events and adventures your family can enjoy for free locally, keep checking our What’s On page to help you find them. Also, if your dinning out make sure to keep an eye out for deals that include free meals for the kids and save some money. You can follow our Facebook page as we post about local freebies which can help your family can enjoy local deals.

Less Tech Time

Over Christmas many homes will have increased the amount of technology they own, and to be fair that’s not a bad thing as they bring loads of benefits to our kids, but we need to remember that they can also be a bit of an overload for our little one’s minds and too much can even affect their social levels. So why not set aside a certain amount of time each day or maybe a whole day once a week where you spend some good old fashioned family time together no mobiles or TV’s or computer games….Your kids will thank you in the long run for this, but don’t forget this includes mums and dads no mobiles too!!

Sleep More

Granted, sometimes easier said than done to achieve more Sleep… However, if you focus on all family members having a bedtime and try your best to stick to them, it will help everyone by increasing concentration levels at school and work, it will cut down on grumpy moments and boosts everyone’s health levels…Win Win outcome if stuck to!

Family Tea Time

Get the family seated around the table each night or as much as you can and eat your evening meal together and enjoy the day’s tales as well as a valuable time to teach your kids good table manners, cause don’t forget it’s all about the #SimpleThings

Hopefully you will find a few of these helpful and worth a try with your family.
