Paxton’s Tower is located on the top of a hill near Llanarthney in the River Tywi valley in Carmarthenshire and was built over 200 years ago, the majestic tower is in fact a folly designed to commemorate Nelson and impress the people of the valley.
The tower was built around 1805 by Sir William Paxton, owner of Middleton Hall, where the National Botanic Gardens of Wales are today. Paxton was a friend of Lord Nelson and wanted to commemorate his victories, so had the tower built in his honour.
