This brilliant Uncirculated 50p, highlighting every tusk and whisker is a must have for Gruffalo Fans. As part of the Royal Mint childhood favourites series, one of the world’s best-loved monsters is appearing on a commemorative UK coin for the first time, in celebration of 20 years of this magical story being published.
The Gruffalo Collection
There are three 50p coins in the collection which are:
- 20th Anniversary of The Gruffalo in Gold, Limited Edition of only 600 – Already 100% reserved
- 20th Anniversary of The Gruffalo in Silver with Colour printing, Limited Edition of 25,000 – All ready 100% reserved
- 20th Anniversary of The Gruffalo in Cupro-nickel, Unlimited Mintage and Uncirculated

The Uncirculated Cupro-nickel Gruffalo 50p comes in fold-out Gruffalo 20th Anniversary packaging. This special 50p is celebrating 20 years since the publication of the book The Gruffalo and there are no plans for The Gruffalo coin to enter circulation. The Gruffalo presentation pack opens out to reveal illustrations from the book, and information about Julia Donaldson (author) and Axel Scheffler (illustrator).

These Gruffalo 50p coins are proving to be very popular, with the gold and silver coins already 100% reserved some have started to appear online for sale for over four times the original purchase prices. There is no max limit of mintage for the Cupro-nickel 50p, and with the prices they are popping up for on online auction sites this shows that with no plan to circulate the coin it could prove a fab investment as well as perfect gift for birthdays or treats!
