REVIEW: Kelly Loves Sushi at Home Making Kit
Trying to make Sushi for the family has been on our Wish List for a long time now, so when we got offered the chance to Review one of the Home Making from Kelly Loves we were totally up for the challenge.
We are lovers of Sushi here, its pretty much a lunch time essential, but as much as we enjoy Sushi from supermarkets, restaurants, and takeaways we have never took on the challenge of making it at home, to which we think is down our worries that it’s a hard thing to achieve.
However, we pushed our fears aside when we were recently sent a Sushi at Home Making Kit from Kelly Loves in return for us sharing our honest thoughts with our readers and we have to say we loved how all the kids embraced the challenge as much as the adults in trying to make something yummy to eat!

Using Kelly Loves Sushi at Home Making Kit
The ease of making Sushi is what has put us off trying previously, but we found using this Kelly Loves home making kit did make it easy to just follow the steps. You have to put a bit of prep into cooking the rice with the sushi vinegar, but then the steps are easy enough for even the kids to help. First you lay the nori sheet onto the roll mat.
Then you push a layer of rice onto the nori sheet, leaving a bit more gap than we did at the ends.
After this you place on top of rice the fillings you wish to use, we went for cucumber, yellow pepper and avocado, but honestly you can be as simple or creative as you want with your filings, and this is where we loved how it got all the kids testing different vegetable combinations.
Once you have all the filings you want on, you have to roll the nori sheet from one end to the other. This is easy enough again for the kids to do, there is a bit of art to it we are sure as we didn’t quite get it so all the nori sheet was not just on the outside, but with bit more practice we will get there, but honestly this was half the fun for the kids was trying to match it up and being a bit wonky did not distract from the taste.
And that’s you, all ready to enjoy eating. You can use some toppings or coat the outside with spicy mayo, fried onions or sesame seeds if you want to. Think if there was one thing, we would do different is maybe put a bit of cling film over the rolling mat before we start as we did get it a bit messy as filling fell out as we rolled, but other to that, we found it really easy to make Sushi.
What is handy as well is once you have used up the content of your home making kits you can revisit Kelly Loves website to get individual ingredients as and when you need it, some you can even buy in multi packs which we found offers a good cost saving option.
Healthy Eating with Sushi
Aside from how delicious it is to eat Sushi it’s actually a healthy choice to make for your family. Seaweed is a staple food in countries like Korea and Japan and that’s what nori sheets are, they are one of the most nutritious plants on the planet, enriched with vitamins, rich in antioxidants and high in dietary fibre, its why people see it as a superfood.
Add on the filling and topping options of things like oily fish, such as salmon, that provides you with omega-3 and all the vegetables also helps your body with good vitamins and minerals, it makes it a healthy eating option for families.
Although as easy as it is to enjoy bite size pieces of sushi it’s best not to over do it as calories and salt content can soon add up, but for parents it is an easy healthy alternative to other snack options for the family such as crisps or biscuits!
Would we Recommend Kelly Loves Sushi at Home Making Kits to Families?
This Kelly Loves Sushi at Home Making Kit was a joy to test out and surprisingly easy to use. Its for sure something we will need to practice using more to make our sushi rolls look prettier, but as parents the fact this kit allowed us to get the kids involved with making food in the family kitchen means it’s an absolute winner in our eyes no matter how wonky our sushi rolls turned out.
The ingredients were really great quality and our rolls tasted way better than many we have had in restaurant cooked by chefs which was a delight, and the spicy mayo was amazing!
The rolling mat was robust, and we loved how it comes with little extras like the pickled ginger so you can cleanse your palate between eating different styles of sushi.
This Kelly Loves Sushi at Home Making Kit really did help us learn how to cook authentic Japanese and Korean cuisine at home with and for the family and on their website, you can even get access to recipes which is perfect for beginners.
We would totally recommend this kit to families, sushi lovers or even as a fab gifting option for Christmas and Birthdays as it surpassed our expectations.
