The Princess Royal Theatre
If you’re after something fun to do with the kids in West Wales, the Princess Royal Theatre in Port Talbot is a great place to keep in mind. This well-loved venue has been a go-to for families for years, hosting everything from laugh-out-loud pantomimes and toe-tapping musicals to children’s shows that keep little ones entertained from start to finish.
The Princess Royal Theatre seats up to 798 people and offers a brilliant mix of performances all year round. Whether you’re after a giggle at a comedy night, a sing-along at a musical, or a magical afternoon at the annual panto, this theatre has seen it all. Families in the area often keep an eye on the events calendar for:
- Children’s shows
- Concerts
- Comedy evenings
- Opera and musicals
- Annual pantomimes
- Exhibitions and fayres
- Ceremonies and presentations
- Conferences and seminars
Accessibility is a key focus here. The lower floor of the venue is fully accessible for both wheelchairs and pushchairs, although it’s worth noting that pushchairs can’t be taken into the auditorium during performances. If anyone in your family has hearing difficulties, special receivers are available, and guide or hearing dogs are always welcome.
There are several pay and display car parks nearby, so parking isn’t too much of a worry, even on busy show days. For any specific requirements, booking directly with the box office is the best way to make sure everything is sorted ahead of time.
Although the Princess Royal Theatre is currently closed for major refurbishment until 2026, it’s definitely one to bookmark for the future. It’s a fantastic space that regularly welcomes families, and once it’s back up and running, we’ll be shouting about it!
They host lots of family-friendly events throughout the year – and we tend to list them over on our What’s On in West Wales page. Looking for more great spots to visit? Head to our Places to Go page for your next family day out idea.
Everything was spot on when we shared this, but for a hassle-free family day out, check with the venue before you go!
