New Gruffalo Trail Opens at National Botanic Garden of Wales

Just in time for Easter School holidays the New Gruffalo Trail is opening for families to explore at the National Botanic Garden of Wales in Carmarthenshire.
Families can follow the mouse through the magical deep dark wood and discover the amazing hand-crafted carvings of the Gruffalo characters.
Whilst open to all, being about half a mile in length (0.8km) the trail does make the perfect walk for kids aged 2 to 6 year olds.
The Wood Sculptors
This new Gruffalo Trail at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales will feature five larger-than-life sculptures of characters from the ever-popular books created by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler: Mouse, Fox, Owl, Snake and the Gruffalo.

Made by Garry Turler, a chainsaw art and wood sculptor who runs Wildboar Carvings from Cwmtwrch, in the Swansea Valley. Its these incredible sculptors that is going to bring this trail to life for the kids.
Garry said: “I’m extremely happy to have been asked to create the Gruffalo and other creatures for the new Gruffalo Trail at the National Botanic Garden. I’ve had to keep quiet about this for a while but I can now say where they are going.”

This new Gruffalo trail will open on Thursday 23rd March 2023, in perfect time for the kids to enjoy over the Easter school holidays. However, it’s not just there for Easter as the trail is open all year with the aim of encouraging children to enjoy the great outdoors and adventure into the woods.
Families can pick up a trail leaflet on arrival and then head for Fairy Wood.
