There’s something really special about a Christmas festival that brings a bit of history to life, and Newcastle Emlyn’s Victorian Christmas is doing just that. Taking place on Friday 28th November from 4pm to 8pm, this free event invites families to step back in time and experience the magic of a traditional Victorian Christmas, complete with all the festive trimmings.

The town centre will be buzzing with costumed characters, street performers, and carol singers bringing the spirit of Christmas past right into the present. It’s the kind of atmosphere that makes even the grumpiest November evening feel warm and cheerful. And if your little ones love getting dressed up, there are prizes up for grabs for anyone who comes along in Victorian attire, so it’s worth raiding the dressing-up box.

What’s Happening at the Festival?

The evening kicks off with late-night shopping across Newcastle Emlyn’s independent shops, giving families a chance to pick up something unique while soaking up the festive atmosphere. A brand-new Christmas shopping village will be set up by the castle, alongside a bustling market packed with stalls selling artisan foods, handmade crafts, and seasonal treats. It’s a great opportunity to support local makers and find gifts that actually mean something.

There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained too. Santa’s grotto will be open for little ones who want to share their wish lists, and horse and carriage rides add a proper old-fashioned touch to the evening. One of the highlights this year is the chance to meet real reindeers, which is always a hit with younger children (and let’s be honest, the adults too).

Festive Food, Drinks, and Atmosphere

No Christmas festival is complete without plenty of food and drink, and Newcastle Emlyn’s Victorian Christmas has that covered. Expect mulled wine and hot chocolate to keep everyone warm, along with festive snacks and treats from the various stalls dotted around the town. It’s the perfect excuse to wander, browse, and nibble your way through the evening.

Live music and choirs will be performing throughout, with Christmas carols filling the air and adding to that cosy, festive feeling. The iconic Newcastle Emlyn Castle will be beautifully lit up as a backdrop to a stunning real Christmas tree, creating a picture-perfect setting for family photos.

The Great Festive Tractor Run

At 7.30pm, the Great Festive Tractor Run will rumble through town, which is always a crowd-pleaser. It’s noisy, it’s cheerful, and it’s a brilliant way to round off the evening. Kids (and farming-mad parents) will love spotting the decorated tractors as they make their way through the streets.

Practical Details for Families

The event runs from 4pm to 8pm, and parking is free all day in the Mart and Cawdor car parks, which makes getting there with the family much easier. Newcastle Emlyn’s Victorian Christmas is suitable for all ages, from toddlers meeting Santa to older children enjoying the festive atmosphere and live entertainment.

Because it’s an evening event in late November, it’s worth wrapping up warm. Layers, hats, and wellies are a good shout, especially if the weather turns damp. And if you’re planning to stay for the tractor run, bringing a flask of something hot is never a bad idea.

This is a lovely way to kick off the Christmas season without the pressure of big crowds or expensive tickets. It’s relaxed, it’s festive, and it’s got that proper community feel that makes events like this so enjoyable for families.
