As part of the Cadw Open Doors this year Old Bishop’s Palace will be offering visitors free entry to explore this weekend.
The historic park and garden surround the Old Bishop’s Palace, which was once the residence of the bishops of St Davids and is now home to the Carmarthenshire County Museum. The Bishop’s Park, comprising the pleasure grounds, walled garden and portions of the Great Meadow and Bishop’s Pond, is just starting a journey of conservation and revitalisation as part of an innovative project to restore and manage the site alongside a community activity and learning programme, encouraging public participation and enjoyment of the site.
The Tywi Gateway Trust, in conjunction with Carmarthenshire County Museum, will be opening the door to the Walled Kitchen Garden at the start of the Trust’s project to restore the Bishop’s Park.
Visitors will be able to enter the walled garden and view the surviving elements of the Bishop’s kitchen garden. Tywi Gateway Trust staff and volunteers will be on hand to explain.
