Spooks in the City Swansea

The annual Spooks in the City returns to Swansea City Centre on Saturday 25 October, and this year’s event has had a bit of a makeover. Running from 3pm until 8pm, Monster Mash-up offers two separate zones, each with its own atmosphere. One for younger children and families, and another for those who fancy something a bit more frightening.

It’s free to attend, and with five hours of entertainment on offer, there’s plenty of time to pop in between shopping trips or make an afternoon of it.

St Davids “Peculiar” Place: family-friendly frights

If you’ve got little ones in tow, head to St Davids “Peculiar” Place. This area has been designed with younger children in mind, so while there will be creatures wandering about (expect a few surprises), it’s all kept light-hearted and fun.

The main stage hosts a packed programme of activities, including:

• Games and music
• A fancy dress competition (time to dust off those costumes)
• Live performances by professional entertainers

There’s a real party atmosphere here, and it’s a great spot for families who want a taste of Halloween without too many scares.

Amy Dillwyn “Dark” Park: not for the faint-hearted

Once you’ve crossed the ominous Troll Bridge, you’ll find yourself in Amy Dillwyn “Dark” Park. This zone is aimed at older children, teens, and adults who are after something more intense. Expect terrifying creatures, chilling sights, and an altogether darker experience. It’s not suitable for younger or more sensitive children, so parents should use their judgement before venturing across.

Getting there and what to know

Swansea City Centre is easy to reach by car or public transport, with plenty of parking nearby and regular bus and train services. The event is free to attend, so families can drop in for as long or as little as they like.

Given the split between the two zones, it’s worth thinking about your children’s ages and temperaments before heading over the Troll Bridge. The “Peculiar” Place is perfect for younger kids who want a bit of Halloween fun, while “Dark” Park offers a properly spooky experience for those who can handle it.

With Halloween events often filling up fast, arriving earlier in the afternoon might give families a better chance to enjoy the entertainment without the biggest crowds. Fancy dress is optional, but plenty of families tend to join in and there’s a competition, so it’s worth making an effort.
