The Swansea Bay Rider Land Train is one of those Swansea school holiday activities that works for absolutely everyone, from toddlers to grandparents. This 72-seater land train runs along Swansea promenade between Blackpill and Southend in Mumbles, giving passengers stunning views of Swansea Bay along the way.
It runs daily throughout all school holidays, including May half term, Easter, and the summer holidays through to early September, from 10am each day, with a hop-on hop-off ticket so you can stop off and explore as many times as you like. Tickets are bought on the train by cash or card, and children under three travel free.
About the Swansea Bay Rider Land Train
The Swansea Bay Rider is a genuinely fun way to take in the coastline, whether you’re jumping off at Mumbles for an ice cream, stopping at Oystermouth to stretch your legs, or just sitting back and enjoying the ride with the sea on one side. The train is fully accessible for wheelchair users, and well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome on board too, so the whole family can come along. Do bear in mind that the service is weather dependent and won’t run in poor conditions, so it’s worth checking before you head out.
When Does the Swansea Bay Rider Run?
The land train runs on weekends from Saturday 28th March to Sunday 27th September 2026, and daily during all school holidays. The full schedule is below.

The Swansea Bay Rider uses a hop-on hop-off ticket system, meaning you can jump on and off as many times as you like throughout the day. Tickets are bought directly on the train by cash or card. Children under three travel free.
