New Gruffalo and Mouse Coin Released by Royal Mint

Following the success of the Gruffalo special coin collection to celebration 20 years since the publication of the book The Gruffalo another New Gruffalo and Mouse coin has been released by the Royal Mint from the magical picture book.

Whether your favourite is the little brown mouse or the Gruffalo himself, the new 50p coin from the Royal Mint childhood characters range is perfect for fans of the famous Gruffalo picture book and has been released on Today 17th October 2019

Featuring both the monster and Mouse together in a scene from the story, the new coin is available in three editions.


The New Gruffalo Collection

There are three 50p coins in the collection which are:

  • The Gruffalo and Mouse in Gold – Limited Edition of only 600 coins being issued. Each coin is struck in in 22 carat gold and costs £980 per coin. The previous Gruffalo gold Proof coins sold out, so this proves to be a popular collector’s item.

The New Gruffalo Collection Gold and Silver

  • The Gruffalo and Mouse in Silver with Colour printing – Limited Edition of 25,000 of each coin being issued and the previous Gruffalo silver proof coin sold out within hours. The silver Proof editions of the coin are decorated with colour printing, reminding us of the original bright and fun illustrations from the book. Each coin is struck in 925 sterling silver and costs £65 per coin.

The New Gruffalo Collection Nickel

  • The Gruffalo and Mouse in Cupro-nickel – Brilliant Uncirculated coins are struck with different presses and at a lower speed than circulating coins, giving them a superior finish. You’ll see tiny details like the Gruffalo’s whiskers and spine on each coin’s surface. This coin has an Unlimited Mintage and will be Uncirculated and costs £10 per coin.



A Perfect Treat for your Little One

The Gruffalo 2019 Beautiful Gift Set celebrates 20 years of The Gruffalo, combining a special edition of the storybook with a coin featuring the first design struck to mark two decades of the magical story, it really would be the perfect gift for Gruffalo fans new and old.

This Gruffalo Gift Set is exclusively available from the Royal Mint and includes the Silver Proof 50p of the first Gruffalo design in colour printing which is no longer available individually.

The silver coin is presented in an acrylic block decorated with lovely illustrations and this set also includes a special hardback edition of the Gruffalo with a foiled cover.  This Gruffalo Gift Set are limited to 1,000 sets and costs £85



Kids Can Colour their Very Own Gruffalo 50p Coins

Something very cute that the Royal Mint have also released alongside this New Gruffalo coin series is a Gruffalo Hub where kids can download their own 50p coin and colour them in how they would like to see them. There are four downloads available here

A Monster WIN

The Royal Mint are also giving away a colour-printed, silver Proof edition of the brand-new Gruffalo and Mouse coin worth £65. This monster prize also comes with a print marking the 20th anniversary and a copy of The Gruffalo signed by its creators, author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler.
