Gower Heritage Centre

Located just west of Swansea on the Gower Peninsula, Gower Heritage Centre is built around a working 12th-century water-powered mill, packed with history and hands-on activities for the whole family. Self-guided tours take in the water wheel, blacksmiths, farming museum and woollen mill, and InspireU, an educational facility at the heart of the Centre, hosts events, parties and educational trips for all ages.

In the Animal Pens and Stables, children can help the animal carer feed the farm animals, including ducks and goats, before taking a stroll round the Fish Pond. There’s also a pottery and craft shop, a tractor play area, and even a cinema housed in a restored 1920s railway carriage. Dogs are welcome on a lead everywhere except the Poultry Park, and the on-site tea rooms and barbecue area are handy for refuelling between activities.

FAQs

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are welcome on a lead across most of the site, though they're not permitted in the Poultry Park

Is the site wheelchair accessible?

About 95% of the Centre can be accessed by wheelchair, though the ground is uneven in places due to the historic buildings. Hearing impaired visitors can also follow a self-guided tour of the mill using the Centre's app.

What does the Interactive Tour and Heritage Experience include?

This 2.5 hour guided experience takes you through the workings of the water mill, letting you help operate the sluice gates, load the grindstones and mill your own flour. You'll take home a 1kg bag of freshly milled flour at the end.

Do I need to book in advance?

General admission doesn't need booking, you can just turn up during opening hours. The Interactive Tour and Heritage Experience is a separate, bookable add-on.
