Library users in Carmarthenshire could soon access their records from the comfort of their own home.
Carmarthenshire County Council has invested in a new library management system which is the latest technology and will also allow staff to contact users by email or text.
It will replace the current system from the end of April 2019 and is in line with other local authority libraries.
The New System
The council is the 17th of 22 library authorities in Wales to adopt the new SirsiDynix Symphony Library Management System.
The council’s executive board member for libraries, Cllr Peter Hughes-Griffiths said: “This new system is the very latest in technology and gives library users more control over their library records. Please bear with us while the new system is being installed.”
A Little Disruption Ahead
Users who record their reading history will need to print off the lists by 7th April before the system goes offline as they will not transfer to the new one.
During the offline period books will be issued and returned via the desks in the libraries, but staff will be unable to take, track or progress book requests or reservations until the new system is up and running.
The self-issue kiosks will also be switched off during the transitional period.
