Guy Fawkes Night at Botanic Gardens of Wales is a relaxed, informal Bonfire Night celebration at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Friday 6th November 2026. Families and friends gather around the warmth of a traditional bonfire in the beautiful surroundings of the garden, with all the charm of this much-loved autumn tradition. There is one big difference from most Bonfire Nights, in that there will be no fireworks. That makes it a calmer evening for local wildlife and a great option for dog owners, and it’s a gentle choice for little ones who find loud bangs a bit much.

What to Expect from Guy Fawkes Night at Botanic Gardens of Wales

The atmosphere is welcoming and laid-back, with the focus on community, tradition and cosy autumn magic rather than a big show. Wrap up warm, bring the family and settle in around the bonfire for an evening that’s kinder to wildlife and friendlier for dogs, but still full of seasonal charm.

It’s worth thinking about comfort before you go. Bring camping chairs so you can sit down and relax, and pack torches to help everyone find their way around the garden in the dark. Hats, gloves and a flask of something hot are always a good idea at this time of year, especially for children who tend to fidget when they get cold.

Dogs at the Bonfire

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, which makes this a rare chance to enjoy Bonfire Night with the whole family, four-legged members included. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times, so bring a short lead rather than an extendable one and keep them close to your chair.

About the National Botanic Garden of Wales

The National Botanic Garden of Wales is a 568-acre site in Llanarthne, in the Tywi valley in Carmarthenshire. It’s both a visitor attraction and a centre for botanical research and conservation, and it’s home to the Great Glasshouse, the largest single-span glasshouse anywhere, measuring 110 metres by 60 metres. There is free car parking on site, so you can arrive without worrying about charges.

During the day, families love the playground with its zip wire, the fairy garden and the Gruffalo Trail, and the garden often holds events during school holidays. It’s a lovely setting for an evening out too, and a good reason to come back in the daytime if the children enjoy it.
