Halloween Trails at Penllergare bring ghostly half-term fun to the woods from Monday 26th to Saturday 31st October 2026. Families can choose between two spooky trails, one for little ones and one for older children, and every trail ends with a chance to win a prize. Trails run daily from 10am to 3pm, starting at the Coffee Shop and Visitor Centre, so you can drop in whenever suits your family. It’s a fun, low-key way to get the children outside in their wellies this October, and a good reason to enjoy ‘Penllerscare’ without a big day out to plan.

What to Expect from Halloween Trails at Penllergare

Pick up your trail sheet at the Coffee Shop, then follow the route through the woods and note down your spooky sightings along the way. Hand your sheet in at the end for the chance to win a prize, which gives children something to aim for as they walk.

Mini Monsters Trail

This one is great for little ones up to age 4. It takes place in the Woodland Garden next to the coffee shop, so it’s easy to keep an eye on toddlers and nip back for a hot chocolate at the end. Explore the paths and search for the spooky characters hiding along the way.

Mystery Trail

Older children can tackle the Mystery Trail along Carriage Drive, where the challenge is to solve the mystery of the Phantom of Penllergare. It’s a good pick for children who like a puzzle, and a bit more of a walk, so it works well for confident walkers.

Prizes

Some of the prizes have been kindly donated by Tesco Llansamlet Community Champions, which is a big help to the small charity that looks after the woods. Prizes are available while stocks last, so it’s worth going earlier in the week if your children have their hearts set on one.

Where to Find Halloween Trails at Penllergare

Both trails start from the Coffee Shop and Visitor Centre at Penllergare, near Swansea. Standard parking charges apply, so bring some change or your card, and wrap up warm because it’s an outdoor event in the woods. Paths can be muddy at this time of year, so sturdy shoes or wellies are a good idea, especially with a pushchair.

About Penllergare Valley Woods

Penllergare Valley Woods are free to wander whenever you like, but the Visitor Centre, Coffee Shop and toilets are open daily from 10am to 4pm (except Christmas Day) and are all by the car park. The car park is open daily from 9am to 5pm, and the barriers are locked at 5pm, so keep an eye on the time if you’re planning a late walk. The Visitor Centre, Coffee Shop and toilets are fully accessible, with disabled parking, an accessible toilet and a baby changing facility.

Access around the woods for wheelchairs and pushchairs is limited because of the steep, historic landscape, but Carriage Drive is relatively flat and gives lovely views of the valley. Dogs are welcome, but they need to be on leads in the Visitor Centre, Coffee Shop, gardens and car park, and under close control in the rest of the woods. They aren’t allowed in the water and must stay on a lead near the lakes, rivers and waterfall.

Tickets and Pricing

Trail sheets cost £3.50 per child and are bought at the Coffee Shop on the day. There’s no need to book, so just turn up any time between 10am and 3pm and choose the trail that suits your children. Halloween Trails at Penllergare are good value for a half-term outing, and a hot drink and a cake afterwards makes it feel like a real treat.
