£160,000 Upgrade Agreed for Aqua Splash Visitor Facilities

It’s been announced that the Cabinet has agreed a £160,000 upgrade for Aqua Splash visitor facilities on Aberavon seafront will go ahead, so families can further enjoy a great day out at this Neath Port Talbot Family Attraction.
Aberavon Aqua Splash a popular Aqua Splash attraction in Neath Port Talbot is getting another upgrade which will see an improvement to the facilities for people with disabilities.
Waves of Funding
Following a decision to accept a £120,000 funding offer from the Welsh Government’s Brilliant Basics Scheme to carry out the Aberavon Changing Place Project by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Regeneration and Sustainable Development Cabinet Board, Neath Port Talbot Council is going to provide £40,000 match funding for the project. Which will see £160,000 injected into improvements to this well-loved seafront family attraction.
Brilliant Basics is a new Wales wide fund that will help support public, third sector and not for profit organisations to deliver basic small scale tourism infrastructure improvements so to help ensure all visitors to Wales have a positive and memorable experience throughout their stay.
It was back in 2020 that Neath Port Talbot Council officers first submitted an expression of interest for this project to the Welsh Government’s Brilliant Basics scheme, covid-19 saw this process suspended, until July 2021 and a successful application was submitted by the Council for the previously proposed scheme.
What Improvements Families Can Expect
This summer families have already benefited from upgrades at Aberavon Aqua Splash as in July 2021 the splash park opened with improvements allowing kids play in 30 plus water features which includes fountains, jets, waterfalls and a giant tipping water bucket. As well as new seating areas and facilities around the Splash Pad site.
By March 31st, 2022, this new project is due to deliver new pathways leading to Aqua Splash, refurbished male, female and disabled toilets and a new, fully accessible changing place.
Cllr Annette Wingrave, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Sustainable Development, said: “It is intended that once the works are complete, the public toilet provision and changing place at this location will not be subject to seasonal opening and will be open to the public all year.
“This will ensure the Aberavon Seafront remains a destination which is accessible to disabled visitors and their families all year round.”
