Go Ape Margam

Go Ape Margam sits inside Margam Country Park, and it’s the only Treetop Challenge course in Wales. Families climb into the trees for platform crossings, wobbly bridges and zip lines that stretch up to 180 metres, with sea views and the historic Margam Country Manor House as a backdrop.

It’s aimed at ages 10 and up, with sessions lasting two to three hours, so it works better as a half day out than a quick stop. Climbers aged 10 to 15 need an adult with them on the course, while 16 and 17 year olds can go solo. Expect harnesses, a safety briefing, and a bit of nerve before that first zip line at Go Ape Margam.

About the Venue

Go Ape Margam is tucked inside the grounds of Margam Country Park. Dogs are welcome on site, there’s a play area for younger ones who aren’t tackling the course, and you’ll find a picnic area and food and drink options for when you’re done. Toilets, personal storage for your bags, and a forest shelter are all on site too, along with paid parking.

Arrival to Site: Follow the signs to the Go Ape cabin and check in there first. Arrive at least 20 minutes before your session, and check that everyone in your group has signed the Risk Acknowledgement, which gets emailed over ahead of time, so you’re not filling it in on the day.

Pricing and Booking

Tickets for the Treetop Challenge at Go Ape Margam start from £36.95, though prices shift depending on when you go. Weekdays during term time work out cheaper than weekends, and prices climb during school holidays when demand is higher. Booking is done through the Go Ape website, where you can check live availability and pick a time slot that suits your day. It’s worth booking ahead in the summer holidays, as popular slots fill up fast. A paid car park is available on site, and while the cabin takes card only, it’s worth bringing some cash in case the parking machines don’t.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Go Ape Margam suitable if I'm pregnant?

Go Ape advises against pregnant women taking part, given the physical nature of the climbing and zip lines. If you'd still like to go ahead after speaking to your doctor, staff will ask you to sign a declaration on the day confirming you understand the risks.

Do I need to be especially fit to take on the Treetop Challenge?

Not particularly. If you can climb a rope ladder, you'll manage fine. It's more about having a head for heights than being super fit, though you will feel it in your arms afterwards.

What happens if it rains on the day?

Go Ape Margam stays open in most weather, since the tree canopy gives decent shelter. It only closes for thick ice, thunderstorms or gales. Rain just means a muddier course, so pack a dry change of clothes for the journey home.

What should I wear and bring?

Comfy clothes you don't mind getting muddy, plus closed-toe shoes (no sandals or crocs). Gloves are handy for grip, and it's worth packing water and a snack, since sessions run two to three hours.

How early should I arrive before my session?

Aim to get to the cabin at least 20 minutes before your booked time, so there's room to park, use the toilets and get everyone checked in.
