Swansea Community Farm is the only city farm in Wales, set on 3.5 acres and home to donkeys, sheep, pigs, goats, chickens, geese, ducks and bees. It makes a great family outing, with plenty to see and do, from meeting the animals to exploring the allotments and wildlife areas.
Children can burn off energy in the play area or get stuck into the mud kitchen, while the whole family is welcome to bring a picnic and use the playing field and firepit area. The onsite café opens Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, serving homemade treats alongside farm produce like eggs and honey, which are also available to buy. There’s a heritage orchard, duck pond and wildlife pond to explore too, and it’s a working farm rather than a petting farm, so children should be kept close, especially around the pigs and hens.
About Swansea Community Farm
Swansea Community Farm has been shaped by local volunteers for over 20 years, growing from an idea into Wales’ only city farm. It’s run as a mental health and wellbeing project, where volunteers of all ages and abilities care for the animals, gardens and each other. Many who help out are living with disabilities or recovering from difficult times, and the farm gives them a place to build confidence, learn new skills and feel part of something. It’s this sense of community, as much as the animals, that makes the farm special.
Prices
Swansea Community Farm is a charity, so entry is free, though donations are very welcome to help keep it running. Suggested donations are £2 per adult and £1 per child, payable by cash or card when you visit. The farm also sells its own produce on site, including eggs and honey, so it’s worth bringing a little extra cash if you’d like to take some home.
