WWT Llanelli Wetlands Centre is a stunning 450 acre nature reserve in Carmarthenshire, and one of the most rewarding family days out in West Wales. It is far more than a nature walk, with Caribbean flamingos, rare geese, adventure play areas, canoe safaris and guided wildlife walks all included or available on site.
The flamingo enclosure is a particular highlight, home to a vibrant flock of Caribbean flamingos that you are likely to hear before you see. Guided talks, bug hunting, pond dipping and bird watching from the hides are all part of a visit, and monthly guided wildlife walks with expert wardens are included in the entry ticket price.
The adventure play areas are free with entry and cater for all ages, from pre-schoolers to teenagers. Highlights include Flamingo Bay, the Swan’s Nest Maze, Water Vole City and Wiggly Wood den building. Most paths are pushchair and wheelchair accessible.
During the summer holidays, canoe and kayak hire is available from 18 July to 31 August, giving families a chance to explore the wetlands from the water and spot kingfishers, dragonflies, water voles and herons. Canoes are £12.95 and kayaks are £9.95, both on top of entry.
The Kingfisher Kitchen café serves sandwiches, soups, cakes, Welsh cakes, brownies and Mario’s ice cream, with beautiful wetland views. You can check their food hygiene rating before you visit using the button on this page. Picnics are also welcome throughout the grounds.
Car parking is completely free and the centre is open 363 days a year. No dogs are permitted except trained assistance dogs.
WWT Llanelli regularly hosts family friendly events throughout the year which we list on our What’s On in West Wales page, so it is always worth checking before you visit.
