The Halloween Lights of the Valley Train brings a colourful evening ride through South West Wales this half term, with Gwili’s vintage steam trains dressed up in sparkling neon lights. There’s plenty of opportunity for photos onboard, along with a few spooky touches for anyone who fancies a little suspense, though these can easily be avoided if a beautifully lit train ride is more your thing.

Seating options include open tickets around shared tables for four, or a private 1950s compartment for something a bit special. A full bar service runs throughout, with real ales, lagers, ciders, wine, spirits and soft drinks served at your seat, alongside hot food options. Children get a biscuit, juice and an activity booklet as they board.

Heads up dogs aren’t able to attend on these dates.

About the Venue

Gwili Railway is one of the most picturesque preserved lines in Wales, following the River Gwili through farmland and wooded hillsides from its base at Abergwili Junction near Carmarthen. It’s known for its friendly, enthusiastic volunteers, who are always happy to share stories about the railway’s history and locomotives.

There are toilet facilities on the platform, including a wide access toilet that doubles as a baby changing unit. The large car park has a gravelled stone surface, with dedicated disabled parking spaces near the Ticket Office and next to the tearooms. The booking office and shop are just off the car park to your right, with a second hand Bookshed alongside it.

Pricing and Booking

First class compartments cost £100 for up to six people, or £90 for up to four, while a traditional class compartment for up to six is £85. Open seating tickets are £20 for adults and £16 for children. Advance booking is recommended, as seats for this one sell out quickly, so it’s worth booking via the Gwili Railway website sooner rather than later. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your booked departure time.
